Walking with lions
Monday, October 6th, 2008
Right through Africa, there are many animal sanctuaries. The idea is to take animals which have been orphaned or injured or whatever and get them fit to be returned to the wild. So you don't want to tame them but in order to look after them, there has to be some degree of 'human habituation'. Tourist money funds this.
These two are around 18 months old - brother and sister but they have long forgotten that. They have already killed for themselves but are not yet ready for release.
You are invited to pat them on the butt which is what I am doing here. Despite my smile, I was pretty scared. You want to see the size of those paws for real.
They play too like most kids. The guide said that sometimes they hurt each other.
