Russians

Monday, October 6th, 2008

A Russian guy once told me that his country lost 27 million people in World War II. Well I am not quibbling for I am sure that it was a lot. Maybe that and three parts of a century under Communism has moulded them to be the way they are - wary and suspicious. But get to know them and they are just the same as us and oh my, they can be so friendly and warm.

Right now, they are in the doghouse for their actions in Georgia but can you blame them? When all this Communist crap ended and the Soviet Union came to to pieces, did we embrace them for coming to their senses? Oh no, we set about incorporating their former vassal states into the EU and NATO.

Is it any wonder that Russia feels surrounded and threatened? When you lose that many people, you are bound to be nervous.

The time has come to treat them as friends and show them that we mean no harm.
