Just thought you'd like to know that on October 15th, this spacecraft will be 1,000 days into its mission to Pluto with around 2,461 days to go. After that, it will carry on through the Kuiper Belt and if it survives that, it will go the stars.
After the British victory at El Alamein, Churchill was asked if it was the 'beginning of the end'. He disagreed but said something like perhaps we may call it 'the end of the beginning.' And that's how I view this mission.
In my lifetime, we, the human race that is, sent the first satellite into space and then went on to send spacecraft to all the major bodies of the solar system. In this case, my name and the names of those that I love along with many others are carried on a compact disc attached to the spacecraft.
I think the whole thing is wonderful and I thank my dad and the old guy next door for stimulating the interest.
