Democracy

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Now correct me here if I am wrong but I thought that the US President could appoint officers of state subject to the ratification of the Senate. I always thought that those officers did not have to hold a democratically elected position but that the Senate ratification meant that there was some check by the electorate. Well, some Brits have smirked at that and found it to be pseudo-democratic.
What hypocrisy! Today we find that Peter Mandelson, a man who has twice disgraced his state office in the UK has now been appointed to Gordon Brown's Cabinet. Well, he cannot be so right away since he is not a member of the House of Lords nor the House of Commons. No probs. Gordon talks to the Queen and Mandelson will be a Lord in a jiffy so that's it.
This is not democracy.
