I read today that this winter, we in the UK may experience a shortfall in power due to 'the ageing infrastructure of our power generation network.' Not surprising is it? The coal fired power stations have been closing along with the collieries and we haven't built any nuclear ones for ages. The nuclear one really bugs me. Just mention the word 'nuclear' and people recoil in horror as though you had said, cyanide, anthrax, plague, fart or something similar.
Well there was Chernobyl and Three Mile Island but the nuclear record ain't so bad. Trouble is, we listened to the Greens for too long and have lost the plot. That's why we now have to rely on the French, the bloody French of all people, to show us the way forward.
