Paying for risk and consequence

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a pay structure based on the risks of a job and the consequences of failure? I suspect it would be very different from what we have now.

Airline pilots and doctors already get a lot but I think they would get even more and at last, we could give nurses a decent wage. Design engineers would certainly command more respect and money, especially in the UK where they are seen as greasy types with spanners. Same with soldiers in battle areas.

The appealing side of this fantasy is that accountants, in the main, would get very little. They just use erasers to correct their mistakes. And how about negative bonuses for these banking wallies who have brought crisis upon us?

I suppose as a retiree, I'd get nothing at all, so maybe we forget about this.
