I have been diagnosed as having arthritis of the middle spine. BUT, I never get any pain there for it is usually elsewhere on my back. Today it is in my left shoulder but tomorrow, it could be the right or in my neck - anywhere but the point of origin.
Life's a bitch at times but never say die.

Cardiff Bus

Curitiba in Brazil has probably the best bus service in the world and I am not alone in saying that. However Cardiff Bus ain't bad and now I have my free bus pass, I just love it. With time on my hands and nothing to pay, it has converted the whole city into a village. I just go down town or down the Bay whenever I like.
All the buses have a GPS system and that means that the LED display at the bus stops will tell you that the no. 27 will be there in 3 minutes. Well, that's the theory; in practice, the bus stop displays are a pretty good guide to what's not happening so they need to work on it. No matter, they keep you wondering - will it be the 53 or the 21? Oh no, it's a 23.
And then on the newer buses we get TV with the BBC news 24/7.
Great innit?

Just learned that a QANTAS A330 malfunctioned over Western Australia. It seems to have abruptly climbed a bit and then plunged sharply for no reason. Around 40 are injured, 15 or so seriously. Some people never learn do they? You are told to buckle up all the time but they don't listen.
And needless to say, some of the injured are kids. God damn their parents!
On many occasions, I have quietly suggested that an adjacent passenger keeps the seat belt fastened and on some occasions, I have got that 'Fuck Off' look.

Dogs

Can't say I am very fond of dogs as pets - bit too subservient for my taste. Oh I had one as a kid and he was my mate and we went everywhere. I suspect, we were equals then but I don't want one as an adult.
Working dogs are another matter. Yes, they obey orders too but they have my respect. Look at these guys. They are huskies and we were racing through the Siberian forest. They absolutely loved it and so did I.
And by the way, this little video was 56Mb so the damn thing does work occasionally.

Americans seem to love their dollar bills; they are kinda sacred. I have always found dollar coins hard to find. So that means the highest denominated coin which is easy to find is the quarter or 25c. So anything which requires coins in the slot requires quarters and that means you have to carry a sackful. I hoard them when I am over there, fearing I might get caught without them.
It's absurd that a modern western nation should have such a low value top coin. And don't give me all that 'but we'd have to change the slot machines' crap. Europe has been doing that for years.
Bring on Susan B. Anthony I say.

Death on the freeway

Statistically, our motorways are the safest roads in Britain. Subjective observation confirms that. Me, I worry more about accidents in car parks where no bugger is looking. But every now and then we have a horrendous prang on the motorways involving lots of vehicles.
The TV news reports this and usually blames the 'motorists' for driving to fast or being inattentive or whatever and I assume that by referring to 'motorists', they are referring to car drivers.
Well, I have seen a lot of motorway pile-ups and when it's just cars, it's messy but not a lot of real harm done. However it's quite different when a truck is involved for then people die. It's not just a question of their size; our truckers drive like assholes bumper to bumper even in fog. They tailgate, they pull out on a whim, they block the lanes so it's no wonder that they kill.
Time the TV news had a go at these 'Knights of the Road.'
October 22nd now and we learn that on the night of the 20th, an entire family, the parents and the 4 kids were obliterated on the M6 as a truck ran over their car completely crushing it and sending it up in flames.
